WEDNESDAY 15th NOVEMBER & THURSDAY 16th NOVEMBER 2006
AT THE 'EAST WEST' GALLERY, 8 BLENHEIM CRESCENT, LONDON W11 2NN
We are so pleased to invite you to our 'Winter 2006' wine tasting at the East West Gallery in the heart of Portobello, Notting Hill. As well as enjoying our wines, you will be able to see the works of Fred Cress, renowned Australian artist, who in this exhibition, has taken his inspiration from the food, fruit and vegetable stalls of our local Portobello Market. We will also be offering our Christmas Hamper Selection........for all those of you who haven't quite worked out their Christmas present list!
We would like to invite you to our 'Winter 2006' Wine-tasting, this time concentrating on the CAMPANIA region (Naples, the romantic Amalfi coast, Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii). Ancient vineyards are the key to the revitalised wines of this historic region. Its' winemakers have 'gone back to their roots' and rather than planting Chardonnay, merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon, have replanted with locally vigorous vines. Some of Italy's most prized wines, GRECO DI TUFO, FIANO, FALANGHINA, TAURASI, originate from here. Most of these varietals however, are little known outside italy, yet are the grapes which grow best in the local climate and soil. We have chosen as usual two small 'boutique' vineyards (one with organic accreditation) and as ever, Valerio Piccolo, our charming and erudite wine expert, will be on hand to instruct and explain.
NIFO-SARRAPOCHIELLO - a small family-run (third generation vineyard lies on the lower slopes of the Pentime mountain at Benevento. Set in 12 hectares of the 'Sannio' a deeply historic area which is steeped in oenological lore, it has enjoyed organic certification since 1998. The owners are passionate believers in the symbiosis of tradition and scientific progress and their vine varietals (AGLIANICO, PIEDIROSSO, OLIVELLA, FALANGHINA, CODA DI VOLPE, GRECO) are all testament to their commitment to ancient traditions and superlative quality.
DI PRISCO - a small but scrupulously maintained vineyard in Fontanarosa, Irpinia, an area famed for its' grapes and wines as well as its' salamis and cured meats. Pasqualino di Prisco is fiercely dedicated to producing historic wines by dint of the most modern oenological means. His enthusiasm and hard work has paid off handsomely as he has received plaudits from the most prestigious wine reviewers. Three wines in his range have been awarded the highest appellation of DOCG - the GRECO DI TUFO, FIANO DI AVELLINO and TAURASI (this last is known as the 'Barolo of the South' and with its' unbeleivably full body is perfect for laying-down.
There is a nominal £10.00 entrance fee, to be refunded on order . We will be offering a 10% discount on list price for any orders placed on the evenings of the tastings. We hope to see you there on one of the two evenings........please tell us which one as space is limited !
