‘Poggio d'Asino' (‘the donkey's back' – so-called because of its commanding position on a hilltop with 360 degree views) is NOT in Abruzzo, but in Tuscany! We have included it in our selection as it belongs to the very talented designer of our quilted fabric range, and also because it has been beautifully refurbished to a very high standard.
It is placed 3km from the mediaeval village of Guardistallo, 200m above sea level, and its situation benefits from the refreshing breeze typical of these hill regions during the summer heat. It is also only 10kms from the sea, set in 5000sq metres of garden, with a 15m x 18m swimming pool. Guests can enjoy visiting various local markets and also the several excellent restaurants nearby. The local Tuscan organic oils and wines, and highly accomplished chefs ensure a gastronomic treat wherever they go.
The house, which sleeps 16, has been fully refurbished, and is decorated in a traditional rustic style, with beamed rooves and terracotta floors. All the furniture has been upholstered in the owner's beautiful quilted cotton designer fabrics. The fabulous high-beamed sitting room is a marvellous place to relax – this leads onto the large terrace, ideal for al-fresco dining, with its west-facing sunset views over the sea. The tranquillity of its setting means total relaxation is assured. The eight bedrooms also make it particularly ideal for a two-family holiday. It provides an ideal touring base for this, one of Italy's most fascinating regions.
