Vineyard Nifo Sarrapochiello

A small family-run (third generation) vineyard lies on the Via Latina at Benevento, on the lower slopes of the Pentime mountain. Set in 12 hectares of the 'Sannio' a deeply historic area which is steeped in oenological lore (it supplied Ancient Rome with grapes and wine), it has enjoyed organic certification since 1998. The Sarrapochiello family are passionate believers in the symbiosis of tradition and scientific progress, and their vine varietals (Aglianico, Piedirosso, Olivella, Falanghina, Coda di Volpe and Greco) are all testament to their commitment to ancient traditions and superlative quality.

FALANGHINA 2005 £ 7.90
(100% falanghina )
One of the most popular white wines in Southern Italy. It is flowery and very light and easy to drink. The grape grows in a rich soil which makes it sapid and salty. Crispy and lively also its colour, a quite deep straw yellow.
7-8 days fermentation and aged in steel for 3- 4 months.
Great as aperitif and with fish based dishes.

FALANGHINA ALENTA 2005 £11.50
100% falanghina.
It's a late harvest, so they pick the grapes 2-3 weeks later than for the falanghina dry version. Therefore the grapes are much richer, expecially in sugar content, and they help to create a softer and rounder wine, with a great body ad a unique taste which gives you hints of a sweet wine, but it's not sweet at all. Only a couple of vineyards in the area do this version of falanghina, which is now becoming pretty popular.
Perfect to match with shell fish.

MAROSA (rose') 2005 £7.90
(100% aglianico)
Very easy-drinking, fresh, round, fruity , very well structured
24-48 day of maceration. Perfect for mixed salami.

SERRONE (red blend) (2002) £ 8.70
(50% aglianico, 25% Piedirosso, 25% sangiovese) the blend of Aglianico with Piedirosso and San Giovese, a typical Tuscan grape, softens the sharpness of "Aglianico grape"and makes it a very easy to drink red.
2 weeks fermentation and aged for 12-18 months in small barrels and barrique
Excellent with young and aged cheese and roasted meat.

D' ERASMO (red blend) ( aglianico riserva) 2002 £ 14.50
(100% aglianico)
A great aglianico, the top wine of Nifo Sarrapochiello's production. After a long maceration (from 8 to 12 days), the wine ages in small oak barrels for 12-14 months, then it's released after resting several weeks in bottles. This Aglianico riserva is a complex wine, unbelievably rich in flavour, with a full and strong body, but not as
aggressive as aglianico tends to be. A wine ready to be drunk now, but still
a wine that you can keep in your cellars for 4-5 years further.

DI PRISCO - a small but scrupulously maintained vineyard in Fontanarosa, Irpinia, an area known above all for the production of grapes and wines, but also famed for its' salamis and cured meats. Pasqualino Di Prisco is fiercely dedicated to producing historic wines by dint of the most modern oenological means. His enthusiasm and hard work has paid off handsomely as he has received plaudits from the most prestigious wine reviewers. He can also be proud of the three wines in his range which have been awarded the highest appellation of DOCG - Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino (both white) and the Taurasi. This last is known as ' the Barolo of the South'with an unbelievably full body, perfect for laying down.

GRECO DI TUFO 2004 £ 9.20
100% Greco di tufo
the Greco di tufo is one of the most renowned white grapes in Campania. Very sapid and mineral.
10 days fermentation and aged for 4-5 months in steel. Can age 2-3 years further.
Great with soups , particularly of mushroom.

GRECO DI TUFO SELEZIONE 2004 £10.80
100% greco di tufo
This selection comes from a very small and old vine of the Di Prisco
property. This vine has reached its best time of productivity, that's where the idea of a Greco "riserva" comes from. Compared to the "normal" Greco, this selection is undoubtely richer n flavour and in taste. Its saltiness makes it perfect to match with white meat.

FIANO DI AVELLINO 2004 £ 9.20
100% fiano
very acidic a well structured white wine. Its acidity make it a very good wine to age.
10 days fermentation. Aged for 4-5 months in steel can age 2-3 years further.

AGLIANICO IRPINIA (red blend) 2003 £ 9.20
100% aglianico di Taurasi

Despite its richness and its full body, this wine, after 15 days of maceration, goes straight into steel vats for one year and then it's ready to go. In this way you have an easier but still complex version of this wonderful red grape.

TAURASI (red blend) 2001 £ 18.00
100% aglianico di Turasi
A miracle of oenology the Taurasi is also called the Barolo of the south for its austerity and for its great structure.
2/3 weeks fermentation, aged for 12 months in big barrels and for further 2 years in bottles.
Can age 15 years further. Excellent with game, meat, aged cheese.
